Learning Pad- tutoring and education offers a full curriculum delivered through therapeutic education and support to children and young people who are unable to access education within a school setting. Our aim is to successfully deliver frontline education services to children, young adults, their families and work in partnership with Local authorities to ensure the right for education is met for our young people. Our purpose is to provide outstanding therapeutic education to the UK’s most vulnerable and difficult to place children and young people within a supportive and understanding environment.
For more information see the Rotherham Local SEND offer.
Our Learning Pad
We provide the right stepping stones to re-engage with their education and rediscover the joy of learning again.
Whether a young person is failing to access their own school, looked after children placed in the area, waiting for a placement at a different school or college, Learning Pad can step in to offer immediate support for academic and personal development. We offer education and therapeutic support to those who are currently not attending school or able to access education.
Our bespoke and flexible structure gives our students the knowledge, skills, qualifications, and character strengths they need to take their next confident steps.
Most importantly, it enables young people to see their own strengths and abilities, so that they can start to believe in themselves and their unlimited potential.
Students who attend Learning Pad may have Education Health and Care Plan (EHCP) or be at the start of the EHCP process or indeed without an EHCP. We welcome referrals from Local Authorities, Schools or from alternative funding streams such as personal budgets, EOTAS or private funding.
How to join Learning Pad
Most of our students are referred and funded by their Local Authority, or by schools, for whom being on-roll does not include receiving or taking up of any education, and we also invite enquiries from parents and carers directly. If you’re interested in starting a conversation about what Learning Pad can offer, or make a referral please make a submission here.
Referrals
Referrals usually come from Special Educational Needs (SEND) Education, Health and Care (EHC) teams or social services in a child’s Local Authority and schools. We are also happy to receive parent/carer requests for information.
Who We Support:
There are many reasons why students are funded by Local Authorities, Schools and or other funding streams (for example personal or private budget), from across England would want a part-time placement at Learning Pad and these include, but not limited to;
• Children or young people, who are waiting for a school or college placement
• Children or young people in the care system.
• Children, young people and young adults, who are unable to access a local school, due to significant anxiety or school/college phobias (often called Emotionally Based School Avoidance (EBSA)
• Education and health care plan named placement.
• Exceptional neurodiverse students, who are not receiving adequate support from schools/colleges due to diagnosed or undiagnosed autistic spectrum condition (ASC), often co-occurring with Social Emotional Mental Health needs or other associated conditions
• Children or young people, who have been excluded from or moved out of their school
• Children who have self-excluded themselves from school due to their needs not being understood or met
• Children who cannot attend local schools due to risk of exploitation.
The Referral Process
The referral process follows a number of stages after initial review of paperwork, which includes, if in place, the child’s Education, Health and Care Plan (EHCP). Where we can meet need we will issue a conditional offer to the local authority and upon acceptance will liaise with parents and carers to assess and plan an induction.
Our aim is to thoroughly assess the needs of every child referred to us so that we can offer the best education.
